Apple Day fun on the park.

Thank you for coming along to Apple Day.

Apple Day is one of our favourite community events of the year. We love seeing everyone coming together to press apples, play traditional games and enjoy the park and garden.

This year Garden Organics and the Master Composters officially opened our new compost demonstration site and people came along to learn all about composting, and to sieve their own compost to take home.

The site is open for you to come and take a look. There is signage to explain all the different compost areas and of course Toby and Steve, our very own Master Composters are often around to answer any of your questions.

Apple Bake Off was a big hit this year and was judged by Mark Satterthwaite, owner and head chef of Base Restaurant and our Park Maintenance Officer Toby Nicholson, self-professed lover of cakes. They had a tough job tasting all your lovely apple delights and awarded Star Baker to Fiona MacDonald for her delicious apple cake.

We are a small team at Ford Park and couldn’t do any of this without our amazing volunteers.

They arrive early to help put up gazebos, tables and chairs, man stalls, collect donations, entertain children, look after the apple pressing team and then help put everything away at the end of the day.

Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the fun, all the money raised on Apple Day and events throughout the year, go towards the upkeep of the park. And a BIG thank you to SLOG - South Lakes Orchard Group for beinging along the apple press and turning our apple and yours into delicious fresh juice.

Same time next year?
