Apple Day Round Up

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make our 10th Anniversary of Apple Day such a wonderful and memorable day.

Since 2014 we’ve been celebrating all things apple at Ford Park by bringing the community together for a fun filled day of traditional games, arts and crafts, raffles and stalls and of course apple pressing with SLOG (South Lakes Orchard Group).

Bake Off returned for its 2nd year and judges Mark Satterthwaite and Toby Nicholson sampled the apple inspired cakes, bakes and chutneys – a tough job but someone had to do it!

This year’s Star Baker was awarded to Yvonne Athersmith for her delicious apple cake.

Congratulations Yvonne, we hope you enjoy your Star Baker wooden spoon and apron, and thank you to everyone who took part.

Along the pathway and in the garden, we had traditional games, a raffle, name the teddy, a membership stand, Garden Organics, plant sales and pendant making and a sale in the Beehive Shop.

The Williams Room was filled with arts and crafts businesses with everything from cards, prints, cushions, handmade jewellery, encaustic art and hand painted ceramics for sale, and we were joined by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust on the terrace who had lots of information on local wildlife and how to protect them. We also had a tombola and apple crafts on the terrace where you could make and apple doll from windfall apples.

The Audio Café joined us on the playground with hot drinks and headphones sharing stories of far away places, and on the main field we held a charity dog show.

The Keswick to Barrow team kindly loaned us their gazebos for the day, and the arena was lined with stalls, face painting and a hot food stall.

Bark in the Park saw 80 dogs enter 8 different classes, all sponsored by local businesses.

Lauren Moss of Church Walk Vets, Amy Bleasdale of The Box LA12 and Helen Scholar of Fletchley Personalised Designs awarded rosettes to the top 3 in each class and the winner of each class also received a dog toy courtesy of Church Walk Vets. Every dog who entered wagged away with delicious snack kindly donated by Sir Woofchester’s.

Best in Show was awarded to a nine-month-old Cockapoo called Coby and his very proud owner Blake Prior who is just 5 years old.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the fun. Apple Day is a wonderful event bringing the whole community together while raising much needed funds for the Ford Park Charity.
